As you have seen in the last blog post, the New Hope Academy school in Kibera suffered devastating loss of a whole building of several classrooms. Since then, the community, teachers, families, the Headmaster, and the Board of New Hope Initiative have sought reparations and direction from God for how to move forward.
Four classrooms have been moved to meet in the lunch room and construction has begun in rebuilding a cinder block building with classrooms to hopefully evade further destruction. New Hope Initiative is raising $100,000 to meet this need (you can donate online at www.newhopeinitiative.org).

Also, New Hope Academy received approval to be the only school in Kibera to offer secondary education for 7-9th grade students. This is a big success because the students can stay in a safe environment for a longer period of their educational career and not have to go out of the slum daily to attend school. It will also attract other students in the slum to the school, thus hearing the Word of God and being in a loving environment.

Sandy Baird, Director of New Hope Initiative, says this: "The shock of the senseless destruction in Kibera, that we experienced, has begun to fade and is being replaced with a renewed sense of hopefulness as God has opened doors and given us favor in the aftermath of this tragic event."
Remember, when you buy a bag of Penda Coffee Co beans, 50% of the profit go towards funding the education of these students in Kibera. You can have a direct impact in their education in which they will be eternally grateful!
